Message From The Director

I've always been fond of the fall—the crisp mornings, the changing of the leaves, the sense of transition and reflection. In this moment, my thoughts go to the amazing, courageous, and incredible work of Contra Costa Health Services staff and community partners.

In a year with more than its share of ups and downs, I've found remarkable inspiration in watching how each of you have dedicated yourselves to the commitment of Health Services to protect and enhance the health of our community, with special attention to the most vulnerable.

This year started with great optimism around the vaccine, while simultaneously dealing with a deadly surge. Our team and partners met the challenge of continuing to ensure a broad range of health care and core services for our residents while maintaining a robust response to the pandemic - ensuring access to credible scientific information, collaborating with partners, caring for those who were sick, offering testing and delivering nearly two million vaccines in an equitable manner. After a spring that felt like we were putting this deadly pandemic in the rearview mirror, we were then confronted in the summer by the more virulent Delta variant. Once again, our employees and partners leapt forward to provide support, counsel, and assistance to our community while never yielding in our focus on equity.

As we enter this holiday season my hope is that you will have time to relax, rejuvenate and reconnect with your families and friends.
